I feel you have misunderstood the whole concept. There is no such thing as you cannot have a regular job if you decide to own a finger monkey.

It is a time-consuming hobby that demands effort and budget as well. So, it may be little harder particularly for adults in mid-20s and 30s who are working. It is because most of them do not have the luxury of time.

For a solution, you can always hire local breeders or pet caretakers or maybe get one of your family member assuming they are animal lovers. They can probably look after your pet while you are working and can resume your caring once you return home. It may sound not practical, but it is one option you got.

Age does matter primarily to determine whether a person is mature enough to own a finger monkey. However, age is not a deal breaker if you are mentally prepared and fully understand the exotic pet care method or accompanied by an adult or under supervision. Before doing anything, just make sure whether it is legal to own one in your state. If yes, you are good to go.

First, you have to understand that pygmy marmoset (finger monkey) are exotic creatures. They cannot be sold as we do for a cat or dog. There are local governmental authorities and bodies that permit whom to provide permission to capture them from the wild, breed them, and sell them with proper documentation.

Sorry for the delay to answer your question. Of course, raising a finger monkey is a great way to relieve stress and depression and also is an excellent hobby if you have plenty of free time. Considering your disability and young age factor, it is advisable to have a backup care person or probably part-time breeder at your place. So, you do not have to be 24/7 with your primate pet, and you can do your things and care for the monkey at the same time without interrupting your any other programs.

Other than that, make sure it is legal to own one in your state then search for reputable sellers and finally check if the documents are right before buying. Also, one more thing make sure whether you can prepare the diet for them yourself or will you need assistance for that as well. Because they get hungry often and failing to feed them on time may cause angry or aggressive behaviors that may harm you.

While we would like to answer your question Emily, it is always advisable to consult the breeder from whom you bought the monkey or make an appointment with your veterian. Why we are saying, this is because each monkey’s individuality and health condition is different, so the treatment differs from one to another.

I’ve recently bought a pygmy monkey, he’s around a year and a half old and has a nasty habit of biting whenever we get close to him. Any idea on how to stop this issue?

Dylan, join the club don’t worry. Your situation is common in the finger monkey world. They are very hungry creatures especially when they are at the baby stage. You need to feed them multiple times throughout the day. Otherwise, it will make them get angry and bite you.

Feeding them the right foods at appropriate times can most possibly solve this problem. If still not, try your luck with some toys specially designed for interaction and socialization purposes. Should you have no luck with these two solutions, then it is time to head out to your authorized breeder or veterian for further instructions on how to proceed about things to restore the situation to normal.

What is the best kind of monkey to have that is small and you can still go to school but is not much of a 24/7 job

Hailey, we only deal with finger monkeys so couldn’t provide you other options. Finger monkey is small, and one of the best kind of monkey/primate but it demands more time and resource from your side. Considering that you are a student and do not get to have the luxury of time, it is better to get a regular type of monkey rather than an exotic one.

It would mean you can spend less time with your monkey friend and still go to school and do your other works as well. Anyhow, it is always better to have a backup care person or part-time breeder or maybe even someone from your family to care for it while you are away.

Sadhiksha, age is not a barrier for having finger monkey as a pet. However, a certain level of maturity is required to care for these exotic pets. If you are very young but still want one so badly, it is advisable to have a guardian or adult supervise you. Also, make sure you can spend quality time with your pet without affecting your studies or other programs. After all, owning one is a time-consuming hobby so be sure you are up to it before buying one.

I am 64 and partially bed ridden. I have care givers that assist me and my pats. I raise mini australian shepherds. They are very calm and actually play with my cat. Do you think a baby marmoset could learn to fit in. I have many trees outside. Should it be on a lease when outdoors? Will it stay ny my side or want to roam around the house. Thank you Karen

Ok so finger monkeys are like nice 99% of the time right. If so I got a guy ready to get me my pet if mostly aggressive than I don’t know cause my little brother likes my house and I don’t want to put him in danger of a monkey biting him. Also what age should u buy one? I’m really confused as to their main diet like do they eat like meats, poultry, vegetables, fruits, trees? Idk but if I could get a reply I would really appreciate it.

Help! I just recently purchased a “female” marmoset. The genitalia looks male to me, but I’ve had a hard time finding any live Marmoset pictures to compare. The breeder assured me she’s female and that marmoset’s genitalia is somewhat similar. Is there someone that can help me out? I want to be sure. I have pictures as well.
